x. For those on my flist who have yet to know more about the NaNoWriMo frenzy that I'm plugging, here it is:
the best event of the year in a nutshell.NaNoWriMo is the affectionate shortform for National Novel Writing Month. Founded by Chris Baty, it is a worldwide project where writers endeavour to write a novel (or part of it) in the month of November. Registering for nanowrimo means that you'll be in a system with thousands of other writers. Forums on the nano site allow you to organise write-ins with other writers from your area (and there WILL be writers from your area), as well as swap tips, gossip or pull each other's hair out. You have thirty days to reach the 50K mark, after which you'll be a purple bar bandit (aka: the stupid, irritating word count bar on your profile finally changes from half filled green to fully filled purple, with your favourite word emblazoned all over it:
WINNER!). What do you win? A half finished (or finished) novel, tons of fun and the pride of a job well done. Seriously, how can you say no to that?

Doing the bus thing to work every day and walking through downtown every day would be a lot less pleasant if I didn't have the option to put on some music and drown out the world. Not because it's so terrible, but because there are days that I don't want to listen to other people's domestic disagreements or screaming about getting ripped off for their most recent hit. I don't want to listen to teenage girls talking about "she's a fucking ho, you know she slept with him and him and him." Sometimes, I just need to shut it out.
And then it hit me. If I feel like this, imagine how my kids at the homeless shelter feel. A lot of them don't just pass through downtown - they're there all day every day, this shit is their LIVES. They leave, sometimes, to go to school or a friends' house, but these are street kids living in the middle of all of the stuff that I try to screen out. And, for the most part, they have nothing."Click on the link (or if it doesn't work, here:

x. Someone on my flist ought to create a friending meme. I need more writers on my flist... (hint hint... someone, anyone?)
I'm going to be defriending anyone who hasn't added me back on this account whom I've added, and posting another post on my old journal, linking my new one over. After all that, it's time to make new friends!
